It is the most important archaeological museum in Europe, exhibiting bronzes, marbles, paintings and furnishings found in the excavations carried out in Pompeii, Herculaneum, and other places in Campania. Collections of Etruscan and Egyptian antiquities, ancient coins and the “secret cabinet”. The Museum, the National Gallery and the 800 Gallery are located in the Royal Palace of Capodimonte, an imposing building of beautiful and lively architecture, started in 1738 based on a design by G.A. Medrano at the behest of King Charles of Bourbon and finished only a century later. The National Gallery includes tapestries, bronzes and above all paintings from the 13th to the 18th century; the 19th century gallery mainly displays works by painters, Italian or foreign, active in Naples; the museum collects porcelain and majolica from the different Royal residences of Naples and includes around 3000 pieces of the most important manufactures, sculptures, tapestries and other art objects. SAN MARTINO MUSEUM

On the Vomero hill, next to Castel Sant’Elmo. It is located in the Certosa of the same name, an ancient convent of Angevin origin, with gardens from which you can admire extraordinary panoramic views. You can visit a rich collection of Neapolitan cribs. Hours: weekdays 8.30-19.30, holidays 8.30-19.30. Closed on Mondays.

In beautifully decorated rooms and halls, there are furniture, paintings, sculptures and porcelain from the Bourbon house. Hours: weekdays 9-20, Sunday 9-20. Closed on Wednesday. (Courtyards and gardens can be visited every day freely)

There are sculptures and frescoes of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries (in the Palatine Chapel). Works of painting from the fifteenth to the twentieth century, silver and bronze (on the three floors of the south area). Hours: from Monday to Saturday 9-19; Sunday 9-14.
